I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I wanted to update everyone on the TCIEA Legislative Alert from Friday, November 22. We have done a great job of flooding the four offices mentioned in the original email with our collective calls and emails, but we cannot let up. If you haven?t had a chance to call or email the offices below, it?s not too late, and if you have already done so, it wouldn?t hurt to send another to really demonstrate how important this issue is to us.

For your convenience, I?ve included the entirety of the previous Legislative Alert below, which includes the suggested script and contact information for the offices.

We are coming down to the wire on the 118th Congress and we want to make sure that we?ve done everything that we possibly can in order to advocate for our legislative priorities. In this case, we are trying to ensure that the Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act (TCIEA) is included in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) reauthorization bill that is currently being considered. Right now is a crucial time for this initiative because Congress wants to pass the WIOA reauthorization when they return after Thanksgiving. We need you to flood the email inboxes and telephone lines and voicemail boxes of four key committee staff members in order to make sure TCIEA gets included in the final bill:

Well, maybe we have a time machine issue? ?
This event has already happened. It was yesterday. And yes, the vibe was super welcoming and warmly. It was a dream come true. Many friendships revisited for many folks.
And of course, for those who weren?t aware, Mr. Jim Portillo showed up to the party, and we had a great time revisiting memories.
And, also it was a great turn out!! So many people visited, and at some point I was trapped and coun?t get out of my chair because there were so many foot traffic problems ? haha

What amazing day to enjoy yesterday! And, it wasn?t raining for the remainder of the afternoon so it was even better!

We would like to formally invite you to the 2025 National Federation of the
Blind (NFB) of Washington state Convention: Live the Life You Want. This
exciting event will be held February 28-March 2 at the Heathman Lodge in
Vancouver WA. We have an array of exciting events planned which include a
karaoke night, jam session, audio described movie, accessible sports, escape
room, our annual job seeker seminar, gatherings for both parents and
students, and other thrilling opportunities. Learn about legislative
priorities, advocacy efforts, innovative technology, find new resources, and
learn about the NFB of Washington at this annual gathering of the National
federation of the blind of Washington. In addition, we will be awarding 3
$3000 scholarships Saturday evening at our annual banquet. Our convention
agenda will be released in the next few weeks, so please stay tuned. Come
meet new friends, reunite with old friends, and learn to live the life you
want. Get your hotel room and register for this exciting event.

Convention Registration: all participants must be registered by February 14,
2025. The registration fee is $30 and there is a choice of 4 different meal
packages: no meals, banquet only, all Saturday meals, or Friday lunch and

As many are celebrating holidays and we near the end of 2024 I want to thank all of our members, families, friend and colleagues for all that you do to help blind people turn dreams into reality. We have much work to do in the year ahead but we have reached more blind people this year, people who have never experienced our message of hope and our rock-solid belief in the capabilities of blind people. We held our highest attended state convention, mentored our Teachers of Tomorrow, gained cosponsors on our national legislation, continued our work to bring accessible prescription medication labels to all blind Washingtonians, co-hosted a successful BELL Academy, held our first STEM2U event, and welcomed many new members into  our chapters.

The National Federation of the Blind really is a family. We support each other in so many ways, celebrating our members? milestones and consoling each other in times of personal trouble and loss.

The holidays can be a joyful time. They can also be stressful when we cannot be with our families or when our families don?t believe in our capabilities as blind people. My hope for you this holiday season is that you love and care for yourselves as well as others. I hope this can be a time of peace for all.

I am filled with tremendous gratitude for each of you. It is an honor to work alongside you and to know you. I am eager for our work in 2025 and our continued support of each other.
