Another boost in King County Metro bus service begins August 30.
New and improved routes will better serve Eastside communities and help facilitate connections to Sound Transit’s 2 Line light rail stations. Metro also is adding bus service in Seattle on Route 106 funded by the voter-approved Seattle Transit Measure. On-demand service Metro Flex is expanding to Bellevue on September 15.
<https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/WAKING/2025/08/12243509/screenshot-2025-08-29-140423_original.png> New bus routes improve connections
* Route 203: Connecting Issaquah Highlands, North Issaquah, Issaquah Transit Center, Newport Way, Factoria and the 2 Line at South Bellevue Station.
* Route 222: Connecting Overlake, Idylwood, downtown Redmond, Education Hill and Cottage Lake, and the 2 Line at Downtown Redmond and Redmond Technology Stations.
* Route 223: Connecting Eastgate, Lake Hills, Overlake and 2 Line service at Downtown Redmond Station, with more frequent 20-minute weekday service.
* Route 256: Direct peak-only service connecting Woodinville, Brickyard Park & Ride, Totem Lake, Kingsgate Park & Ride, Yarrow Point Freeway Station, Evergreen Point Freeway Station, South Lake Union and downtown Seattle.
More frequent buses on weekdays
* DART Route 224 between Duvall and Redmond will improve to service every 60 minutes.
* Route 226 in Bellevue will provide peak service every 20 minutes connecting Downtown Bellevue, Lake Hills, Bellevue College, Eastgate and the 2 Line at South Bellevue Station.
* Route 240 will improve to service every 20 minutes during peak and midday times on a revised pathway connecting Downtown Bellevue to the South Bellevue Station, Factoria, Newcastle and Renton.
* DART Route 249 will improve to service every 30 minutes on weekdays with hourly service added from 7 to 9 p.m. connecting Redmond Technology Station, Overlake, downtown Bellevue, and South Bellevue Station.
More frequent Route 106 service in Seattle
The voter-approved Seattle Transit Measure (STM) is funding 30 new bus trips per week in early mornings and mid-day on Route 106, which connects Chinatown-International District in Seattle to Mount Baker, Rainier Beach, Skyway and Renton. These 30 new trips mean that Route 106 buses will now arrive every 15 minutes from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Adult fares change September 1, 2025 for King County Metro, Water Taxi and Seattle Streetcar
Adult fares are changing September 1, 2025, on King County Metro buses, Metro Flex, both Seattle Streetcar lines and both King County Water Taxi routes. ORCA LIFT fares on both Water Taxi routes are also changing. Reduced fare rates for Senior, Disabled, Youth, and ORCA LIFT riders will remain unchanged everywhere else.
The new adult $3 fare brings the price of riding Metro buses, Metro Flex and Seattle Streetcar in alignment with Sound Transit’s flat fare on Link light rail and Express buses. The Metro Vanpool/Transit pass will increase from $99 to $108 to account for this new fare on regular transit service.
This is Metro’s first adult bus fare increase since establishing a flat fare in 2018. Metro’s fare policies support equitable access to transit, our revenue targets and regional coordination. Periodic review of fares is a regular part of Metro’s budget planning process.
How riders can prepare for the fare change
Riders are encouraged to review the fare changes prior to Sept. 1. Here are some tips to help you get ready.
* Purchasing a monthly PugetPass? You’ll want to adjust the amount selected for your next purchase and update the autoload settings for your ORCA card at myORCA.com. See more details below.
* Pay with ORCA E-purse? Consider updating your autoload amounts prior to Sept. 1.
* Reduced fares are available for riders with lower incomes, and for seniors and riders with disabilities. Please visit Metro’s <https://links-1.govdelivery.com/CL0/https:%2F%2Freducedfare.kingcounty.gov%2F/1/01000198f87bf177-5ba01fbc-b1b4-4412-b514-cbdcb197ca22-000000/F_QafezGpMT_cUPVN9iQKkkg7G4SAN9RhcNRQReRavs=420> Reduced Fare webpage to learn more about these programs and take a quick, five-question quiz to determine which fare may be right for you. Youth 18 and younger ride free and are encouraged to <https://links-1.govdelivery.com/CL0/https:%2F%2Finfo.myorca.com%2Fyouth-ride-free%2F/1/01000198f87bf177-5ba01fbc-b1b4-4412-b514-cbdcb197ca22-000000/51DQj4N1pZokm4mYtrzjGvR9T_K2iFncTynr4fMBOxA=420> get a free Youth ORCA card (also known as a Free Youth Transit Pass).
* Have questions? Metro customer service is available to answer fare-related questions weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 206-553-3000.

The expansion of Vashon Water Taxi service included the addition of four midday roundtrips across the Salish Sea to go with the existing morning and afternoon commuter trips—growing the route to 10 roundtrips between Vashon and downtown Seattle.
Additional trips help people get to work, students get to school, patients get to medical appointments, and tourists make trips to explore parks, have lunch, and ride bikes around Vashon Island.
