<div dir="ltr">Hi Marci,<div><br></div><div>I hope that NLS produces more math books in e-braille format.</div><div><br></div><div>Oneday, I was looking for math books in braille to refresh my math skills and found that it's almost impossible to find good braille math books especially advanced math such as college algebra and calculus. If someone is out of school system, it's almost impossible to access math study material in braille format. Test prep material is non-existence, e.g. SAT, ACT or GRE. Bookshare books only support literary braille format, and national braille Press sells braille math books in hard copy, but it costs thousands of dollars.</div><div><br></div><div>For those of us had career change in middle of our lives, ability to access math study material in braille determines whether we continue to be competitive with our colleagues or not.<br></div><div><br></div><div><div>As you know, math is the foundation of career related to STEM field which I can see many successful blind and visually impaired engineers in the future. As NLS Special collection for braille music score supported many blind musicians, I believe that building special collection for math books in e-braille will produce next generation of many successful blind engineers working in STEM field.</div></div><div><br></div><div>Thanks,</div><div>Young</div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Mon, May 20, 2019 at 6:32 PM Marci Carpenter via NFBWATLK <<a href="mailto:nfbwatlk@nfbnet.org">nfbwatlk@nfbnet.org</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">Tomorrow, May 21, I will be flying to Washington DC for three days of meetings regarding braille and talking books. I am the NFB representative on the NLS Collection Development Advisory Group. We meet every other year and make recommendations to NLS about authors and genres of books that our constituents would like to have available. These can be adults, children, graphic novels, Fiction, nonfiction and formats in braille, talking book and magazines. NLS implements most of what we recommend so this is genuinely an opportunity for our voices to be heard.<br>
