The Greater Seattle chapter of the National Federation of the Blind still had a meeting with five of us in attendance, including someone Amandeep invited who ended up becoming our newest chapter member! Welcome Amara! Happy to have you in our chapter!<span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black">
We discussed three main topics. Amara and Amandeep talked to us about the upcoming Week Without Driving, happening October 2-8. City leaders and as many citizens as possible will be encouraged to go places without driving their vehicles, encouraged to take public transportation and ride share.
Amandeep talked to us about her recent trip to England, where she participated in a study abroad program for school. She talked about some of the challenges she encountered but also mentioned some of the cool ways that her instructor and classmates made the experiences fun and accessible for her so that she could fully participate. She hopes to give a more detailed presentation during our upcoming state convention in March!
Finally, we had a wonderful philosophy discussion. Humberto brought up some situations he recently dealt with, and asked some great questions. We talked about good ways of getting information or assistance at gatherings without inconveniencing others and oneself. We talked about independence and how it isn’t wrong or bad to ask others for different types of assistance or general information. We also talked about how technology can also give some important information so as to then know what sort of assistance to ask for. Great discussion, Humberto.
We mentioned the upcoming picnic in September and White Cane walk in October.
It was a good and informative meeting!

_______________________________________________
