What: Next San Francisco NFB Chapter Meeting
When: Every second Tuesday, on March 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Where: San Francisco Lighthouse - 214 Van Ness St. San Francisco
----
The San Francisco chapter of the National Federation of the Blind will meet
on Tuesday evening, March 10, 2015 at the San Francisco Lighthouse, 214 Van
Ness St., San Francisco. We will enjoy food starting at 6:00 PM. The
formal meeting begins at 6:30 PM and adjourns promptly at 8:00 PM.
Last meeting we discussed the blind centipede for the Bay to Breakers race
and a number of business items including fundraising options, elections and
various happenings within NFB's advocacy efforts. Next meeting we will
learn a bit about the history of the organized blindness movement from Bryan
Bashin: before we had the Americans with Disabilities Act, accessible
iPhones, screen readers and civil rights, how did blind people actually
assert any form of the independence that we might recognize in 2015. In
addition, thanks to Lisamaria Martinez and her engineer husband, We will
also briefly demonstrate a prototype contraption that we invented for the
Bay to Breakers race which enables several blind runners to safely stay
synchronized. We may take it for a test drive around the block and accept
sign-ups for the race. Don't miss all this and more for what is likely to
be an intellectually and physically exciting meeting. Chapter President Tim
Elder can be reached at eldert at uchastings.edu or at 410.415.3493.
