Lisa,

NFB is engaging with Uber and Lyft on ways to make the routing to walk to an
alternative pick-up location accessible. Currently, walking directions and
possible pick-up locations are graphically displayed on a map to a sighted
user. No equivalent is provided to blind users. One option under
consideration by Lyft appears to be the use of a link to open up a maps app
like Google Maps or Apple Maps to obtain Realtime turn-by-turn directions to
the pick-up spot. Questions remain on whether that would be equal.

Pool and Express are now combined. There is an accessible switch in the
ride selection process where you can turn walk to location on or off. It
shows price savings when it is turned on.

Maybe a discussion of this topic could occur at the chapter meeting to
collect feedback.

Subject: [Nfbsf] voiceover and Uber Pool/Uber Express Pool questions

Hello Friends,

I am using an IPhone 8s and the latest update. I also use Lyft and uber.
Over the past month Uber appears to have combined the selection for Uber
Pool and Uber Express Pool; there's no longer separate options. However,
according to a sighted passenger, there is a secondary layer which allows
the Uber passenger the option to change to Uber Pool. I haven't come across
this option, have you?

Also, voiceover reads off the address that I type in while the actual screen
has a box that reads, "meet driver here" and there's a map behind the text.
Has anyone else encountered these changes, and how have you handled these
changes?

I'm willing to adapt and of course, save money and use Uber Express Pool.
What I'm not sure how to do is to find out exactly where my driver is once I
walk to the location. I understand that sighted passengers can see a map and
the actual location of exactly where their driver is located. I also learned
that drivers can see exactly where passengers are located if passengers have
enabled the share location feature. I know the obvious is to contact the
driver. The pesky matter is the language barrier and the driver may not
respond to his/her phone for obvious reasons. Ideas please?

Thanks!

Lisa
