Accessible Census Workshop Series

Participation in the 2020 census is a vital opportunity to make
sure your
community is accurately represented to federal, state, and local
governments, but the format can present some accessibility
challenges. Join
the LightHouse accessible technology team for a two-part virtual
workshop
series covering core technology skills to enable you to
participate in the
2020 Census. We welcome you to listen and learn with us
regardless of your
technology skill level. Join us for one, or both, of the
workshops detailed
below.

Reading Mail and Keeping Your Info Safe April 10, 2020 from 1:00
to 4:00 PM

In this workshop you will learn:

*	Apps and techniques for finding your census postcard and
other
important mail amidst the clutter of junk mail
* Apps and techniques for reading important mail in detail.
*	Tips for digital safety when reading snailmail and email.

Filling Out Online Forms with Screen Readers April 17, 2020 from
1:00 to
4:00 PM

Whether you choose to complete your census online or via other
means, this
workshop will ensure that you have the skills to enter data in to
online
forms. In this workshop you will learn:

*	How to make sure your screen reader is in the right mode to
fill out
forms,
*	How to understand and work with common parts of forms, such
as edit
fields, check boxes, and radio buttons.
*	Safety tips for entering data online.

With respect to the current shelter-in-place orders, both
workshops will be
presented over Zoom with the option to follow the below link, or
dial in
from a traditional phone. To dial in from a landline, call
1-669-900-6833
and enter meeting ID 831 578 694 when prompted.

Both workshops will use the same meeting info:

PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE STARTING THIS WEEK: 1:00 PM lunch hour,

Inviting all Bay Area blind and visually impaired folks to join
us for a
daily Blind Communuty Online Lunch Hour.

While the 9 Bay Area counties are under orders to stay home,
because of the

Blind folks already experience social isolation at alarming
rates, so let
us use this as an opportunity to expand our community and
networks in an
online platform!

We will be hosting weekday calls from 1-2 PM in order to allow
folks to
stay connected with community, share concerns and resources, as
well as
support each other through these unusual times.

Please join us, stay connected and help us spread the word. If
you are
interested in hosting a meeting or being part of the community
organizing
team, please contact Laura Millar at laura at lauramillar.com or
Jim Barbour
at jbar at barcore.com.

The Bay Area Blind Community Social Group would like to invite

While the 9 Bay Area counties are under orders to stay home,
because of
the COVID pandemic it is more important than ever to stay
connected.

The Bay Area Blind Community Social Group would like to invite
you to join
 us at
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1880052932030910/?ref=share to
stay
 connected to the local community
