Hi Folks,

In 2021, the NFB Washington Seminar will be virtual. While we'll miss the excitement of visiting the Congressional offices, the virtual nature of next year's seminar allows participation opportunities for those who normally don't get to go.

The seminar takes place from February 8-11, 2021.Here is more info from the
application:

The Washington Seminar is the premier legislative advocacy event of our organization. Members of the National Federation of the Blind from across the United States converge on our nation's capital to advance our common legislative priorities. We synchronize our efforts and meet with our elected officials. This collective advocacy makes a strong statement to encourage our government to adopt important laws affecting blind people. Nothing quite compares to the feeling of making change while having fun with your positive blind colleagues.

The 2021 Washington Seminar will be virtual & free for all. You will get the opportunity to develop a relationship with your Congressional Representative and Senators and meet them on Zoom. This is a great opportunity for members of all ages and abilities to directly participate in our democratic government. If you are interested in attending the 2021 Washington Seminar, please fill out the form below and submit your request. The deadline to submit your request is January 1, 2021.

Levels of Participation

Lead Member - This person will set up meetings with Congress. Work with team members to review and practice legislative priorities to present to Congress.

Participant - Will practice with a team and present one of our priorities to Congress.

Member - This person will be present in the meeting but will not present.

Meetings to Attend:

Lead Members or Presenters will be trained and given sufficient support to take on the important work. To ensure we can give you the tools you will need, we ask that you attend the following mandatory meetings to prepare and practice the materials:

* One Large Group Meeting (offered multiple times in early January)
* Two Small Group Meetings (in January or February per availability of
small group members)
* Great Gathering In Meeting (Monday, February 8, 2021)
* California Caucus (Monday evening, February 8, 2021)
* Appointments (approximately 30 minutes each) with elected officials
to be scheduled throughout February 9-11

Members will be offered training and the option to participate in the above events. Signing up as a Member ensures that we can inform you of the time and place of the meetings with your corresponding representatives.

If you have questions about Washington Seminar, post them here. A number of chapter members have gone and we'd be happy to answer questions.

If you're free or able to take time off, I highly encourage you to attend at any level. It's an amazing learning experience and feat of advocacy and teamwork.
