> Navigating COVID-19
>
>
> It is hard to believe that 135 days have passed since NBP began navigating the unknown waters of COVID-19. Initially there was little known about this Novel Coronavirus, and the uncertainty resulted in fear and anxiety for many people. Staff at NBP were no exception, with concerns about safety, their family members, and the work environment.

> Over the past couple of months we have carefully integrated more staff into our building, not just in offices but the production area, where the first day back to work included a review of our “new” protocols for masks, distancing and cleaning procedures for work stations and public areas.

> In spite of the complexity and multiple stages that are required to produce braille materials, we have adapted exceeding well with every facet of our work including our own publications, educational tests, textbooks and the business market. NBP still has a handful of people that our working remotely for various reasons, but over 95% of our staff are coming in to our workplace every week. More importantly, our staff feel that NBP is a pretty safe environment, because every employee has actively participated in following the procedures to keep our building safe. I’m very proud of everyone for assisting in this effort.

> There is no doubt that the first couple of weeks were like navigating class IV whitewater rapids, where you come out of it fatigued, tense and mentally tired. Now we are moving comfortably downstream, but still aware that anything can happen in the weeks ahead. Let’s hope that fair winds and following seas are the result.

> Book of the Month: SUN! One in a Billion
>
>
>
> Meet Sun: He's a star! And not just any star — he's one in a billion. He lights up our solar system and makes life possible. With characteristic humor and charm, Stacy McAnulty channels the voice of Sun in this next celestial "autobiography." Rich with kid-friendly facts and beautifully illustrated, SUN! One in a Billion is the August selection for the Children's Braille Book Club.
