Secretary report

*         January Meeting Minutes were sent out to the list serve

*         Motion was made by Bobbi and all approved of secretary report

 

Treasurer Report

*         As a total we currently have $1,189.43

Presidential Release Recap

*         The blind driving challenge 2.0 has started with the hopes to work
with different individuals to make the experience accessible 

*         The NFB is partnering with a blind gentleman who is trying to earn
a Guinness world record of the fastest person driving under a blindfold of
more than 200 miles per hour

*         The JBIR is a great resource to study and use for education tools 

*         Starting on February 15 the NFB is putting out a diversity and
inclusion survey encouraging as much feedback as possible from diverse
voices 

*         On March 8th there will be a Diversity and Inclusion committee
open forum and details will be sent out to join 

*         The Independence market is having a monthly sale  

*         All members are encouraged to fill out the unemployment survey
located at nfb.org/legal

*         The National Blind student organization are having a auction to
raise funds for student endeavors on February 10th and it can be found at
32auctions.com/2021blind students  

*         The NFB code of conduct has been update and working better to
ensure everyone's support and safety is priority   and any violators will be
taken seriously 

*         The NFB survivors' group is a resource    for members and can be
reached at survivors at nfb.org, and is also making a task force to deal with
matters

 

Member Announcements 

*         Bobbi reminding us that there will be a national Diversity and
inclusion committee open form call on March8th and you can submit questions
to diversity at nfb.org

Bobbi letting us know that there are open calls for members who identify as
survivors of sex and mis conduct this Friday at 5 PM pacific and reach out
to Bobbi if you want mor information or email

*         Christina informing us that every year lighthouse has a home in
prize each year up to$25,000 with blind ambitions, to apply submit a 90
second YouTube pitch and fill out an application by march 14 

*         Laura has a podcast with Bobbi called hands on safety regarding
topics of consent

 

Chapter Announcements

*         The national NFB convention will be virtual and the host will be
Maryland this July and will be in person next year in New Orleans

 

Elections

*         With the help of the board, we will have virtual elections and
those who have a star next to their name will be able to vote 

*         Jim nominates Taryn for Secretary, Taryn accepts, Amy made a
motion to move to cease nominations and vote by voice, Jaime second, all
approve

*         Lisa nominates Sara for treasurer, Sara accepts, Bobbi made a
motion to cease nominations and move to vote by voice, Jaim second, all
approve 

*         Taryn nominates Sheri A. for board position one, Sheri accepts 

*         Laura nominates Jim for board position one, Jim accepts

*         Amy made motion to move to elections 

*         Sheri A. makes a speech

*         Sheri makes a speech for board one position

*         Jim declined nomination 

*         Bobbi made a motion to cease nominations and move to vote by
voice, Jaime second, all approved, Sheri wins 

*          Lisa nominates Laura for board position two, Laura accepts, Jim
made a motion to cease nominations and move to vote by voice, Jaime second,
all approve

 

Washington Seminar

*         We are in the middle of meeting with different Congressman about
four different bills 

*         The four bills are ACCESS TECHNOLOGY AFFORDABILITY ACT, AMERICANS
WITH DISABILITIES VOTING RIGHTS ACT, MEDICAL DEVICE NONVISUAL ACCESSIBILITY
ACT, and TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY MOBILE APPS AND WEBSITE ACCESSIBILITY ACT

*       Christina, Jim, Bobbi, and Taryn are involved

*         Due to being virtual every state is having issues making
appointments

 

Diversity and Inclusion Committee Discussion

*         During the summer our chapter decided to allocate funds to donate
$500 to a cause and tonight we will decide where to donate 

*         The three options we have come up are as follows

*         The first option is a scholarship to a person of color 

*         The second option is to make a donation to a local nonprofit
organization like Black Lives Matter or an organization that interacts with
disabilities 

The third option is called make it accessible   by allocating Money efforts
like helping racial justice including education materials to become
accessible

*         Our chapter voted for the third option, make it accessible

 

*         Bell Ringers

*         Sheri A. is happy her chicken is done

*         Taryn is happy she has been in an amazing relationship for a week
and that person is here

*         Jim is happy that first full day of Washington Seminar Is over 

*         Jaime is happy that she lost 33 pounds, is under 200 pounds, and
has not been that low since middle school

*         Jaime is excited for her hernia surgery

*         Bobbi is super happy we finished our meeting with ten minutes to
spare 

*         Lisa is happy that she lost 11 pounds 

*         Katherine is happy that today's meeting was really great and is
working on being healthier

*         Bobby is excited for her four-year anniversary from LCB 

*         Bobbi has started teaching at SF State and has had two classes so
far

*         Laura was happy to talk about ableism 

 

Jim made a motion to adjourn the meeting,

Bobbi seconded, and all approved
