Meeting Minutes: May 14, 2024

Location: LightHouse for the Blind, 1155 Market St. San Francisco, CA
94103/Zoom at 6:30 PM 

 

Call to Order and Introductions

Bobbi invited members to share their name, pronouns, where they live or were
calling from, any identities they would like to share and in recognition of
Mental Health Awareness Month, "what do you do to regulate your mental
health?"

Board members present: Bobbi Pompey, Christina Daniels, Laura Millar, Sara
Hadsell, Serena Olsen, Jeanette T

Elder (NFBCA President), Cindy Fassler, Lisa Irbing, Kevin

Reports

Secretary's Report given by Bobbi Pompey 

Bobbi reported that Sheri emailed the minutes of the April 2024 meeting to
the listserv. They asked if there were any questions or comments. None were
raised,

A motion was made and carried to approve the Secretary's report.

 

Treasurer's Report given by Sara Hadsell, Treasurer

Reported bank balance is $1231.60. The Venmo balance is $0.

Sarah stated that BMO does not require monthly transfer to waive bank fee,
so no longer need to keep Venmo balance. 

Expenses not yet incurred: $100 for NFBCA donations. Several attempts have
been made to send the money, but the transaction has failed. Sarah is
waiting for further instructions from affiliate.

A motion was made and carried to approve the Treasurer's report.  

Tim Elder made a comment that the Treasurer's Report does not need to be
approved by the chapter body. 

FYI: Annual dues are $10 and are payable in January. If anyone wants to pay
dues and are using PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle, please use this information to

The address for payment of checks is 585 9th St, Oakland, CA 94607. If
paying by PayPal, you must do it on a computer, which is where you can
select that you are paying a friend, rather than purchasing an item. The
PayPal phone app is set up for commercial purchases.

Treasurer Sarah checked on outstanding payments, and saw that donation to
NFBCA may have been made twice. Discussion will continue next month when all
transactions can be verified.

Legislative report Bobbi Pompey

HR3095: Fair and Open Skies Act. Public comments and support are being
accepted by the House of Representatives. Training for staff, eliminate
inaccessible form for guide dogs, accessible in-flight amenities.

SB1446: have more checkout cashiers and less self-checkouts. Support this
bill.

Advocacy Update: Lisa Irving - the two Uber drivers who were cited in her
case are on the docket to go to court to plea and face their consequence.
Lisa hopes for a "guilty" plea and education required. 

Tim Elder discussed an upcoming hearing for California to allow voting
electronically. Update to come.

 

Chapter business

Vision Walk: Laura Millar

Looking for volunteers to join her at the table on Saturday, May 18 at 8:30
- 12 Noon. Held at SF Golden Gate Park Bandshell Concours. It is important
to show the positive side of blindness, and be examples of living productive
lives.

 

Social Gatherings: Bobbi

They will occur on the third Saturday, every other month, on the even
months.

Jeff: Best Meeting!

Sorena: Cooking her Final, and then showing up with food for meeting 

Ginny used personal experience with Microaggressions as part of professional
training audience   

Lisa is taking charge of her health, and steps to get a job

 

Adjournment: A motion was made and passed to adjourn the meeting.
