d. Legislative update: Uber and Lyft Rally - Bobbi reported the event
will be on 10/15/2024 from 10 - 3 PM. There will be a bus from the Crowne
Plaza SFO taking people to the Uber HQ where the rally will begin. There
will be a break for lunch, and then on to Lyft HQ. Please make banners, or
signs if you can.
Discussion followed about what NFB is asking from Uber and Lyft. Here are
the four: Uber and Lyft cannot discriminate against blind passengers, there
must be a zero-tolerance policy for drivers, rideshare companies must reduce
the burden on blind passengers when reporting denials, and better education
is needed for drivers regarding laws and policies pertaining to blind
passengers and guide dog users. Lisa added that this is being referred to as
a Rally and not a "protest" with the purpose to bring public awareness, and
keep it positive. If you want to go, please register at

3. Chapter business
a. August Social Gathering update- Christina reported a good time and
good food at the pizza place right at the Pleasanton BART station. We were
able to spread out over the whole outdoor patio area. Christina reported
that there was a beer called the Blind Pig which a couple members did try.
b. Check-in about in-person chapter meetings. Discussion followed
whether to continue. Motion was made to discontinue in-person meetings, and
virtual meetings continue. There was a second. Motion passed.
c. October Social Gathering: Lisa discussed October with Halloween is a
scary and fun month, had chosen several options for an event. These were
sent out by email to the list. Discussion followed and Lisa will send a
follow-up email with two choices for members to choose for those who are
still interested
d. Bobbi reminded us that the SF State students will be joining the
chapter meeting in October as they usually do for Meet the Blind Month. This
is a good opportunity to ask questions and exchange information.
4. Discussion topic: Bobbi asked members about rideshare denial
stories, and what ideas people had for solutions for these problems.
Discussion followed.
