I want to add that our California public utilities commission has done everything possible not to regulate Uber and Lyft pricing structure. We need to overhaul this commission because they don’t work at all in the interest of the public.

Daveed,

Today, I took an Uber from SF to my home at a cost of more than $32.00. The actual ride was sixteen dollars. I was charged a nine-dollar and twenty-five cents bridge fee, an outrageous eight dollar booking fee, a three dollar SF fee and smaller fees. It’s not just the insurance, it’s the greed; the booking fees. It’s the ever-climbing, non-stop excessive bridge fares. Did I say, the excessive booking fees? I’m disgusted with Uber and Lyft’s greed, the money-grubbing State of California, and balancing the financial disparities experienced by drivers on the backs of the average Joe.

Daveed, our purpose is to serve and connect. That's why we're focused on updating unreasonable insurance requirements. We want to make rideshare more affordable, so riders can take more rides — and drivers can earn more.

Soaring insurance costs make basic protections, like home and auto insurance, increasingly unattainable. Rideshare is no exception.

Since January 2025, riders paid more than $6 for insurance on average per ride — most of which is excessive coverage. (In comparison, Lyft received less than $3 per ride on average.) These high insurance fees inflate your ride prices and reduce driver earnings.

To give you further transparency on what each ride fare covers, you'll now see the estimated cost of insurance and other external expenses in your emailed receipt.

Help make your rides more affordable

We're working with state lawmakers to update rideshare insurance requirements. Our goal is to improve affordability without compromising on insurance protections. In turn, we want to pass cost savings onto you.

Tell your lawmaker to pass reasonable rideshare insurance reform to curb the rising costs of your rides.
