Building an Intergenerational Movement
Hi Friends!
This Saturday, we're so delighted to partner with the city of San Francisco
to present a dynamic lecture on the 504 sit-ins, the history of our
movement, and the future we're building. Emily Beitiks, DCC co-director and
scholar-activist, will be joined by 504 protestors Dennis Billups and Debby
Kaplan to share their stories and the lessons they've learned from decades
as disabled activists. After the lecture, in-person attendees will have the
opportunity to walk and roll over to the site of the 504 occupation for a
chat and group photo.
Y'all, it's always a good time to be in community and learn our history,
but right now, it feels especially important. Things are scary, and our
communities are experiencing regular attacks on critical services and
resources. It's a struggle that we're in together, and we're here for the
fight. We're so grateful to learn from the experiences, strategies,
courage, and perseverance of folks like Debby and Dennis. If you're

and Economic Support and Self-Sufficiency are launching a new Mobile
Benefits Center

at the DCC! It's a little bus that will drive around the city to help folks
determine eligibility and sign up for services. We're so excited that it'll
be parked in front of the DCC for its big debut! No need to sign up to
visit the benefits bus — just drop in!

City Day 504 Rolling + Walking Tour
Join 504 protestors Debby Kaplan and Dennis Billups with scholar-activist

Filmmaking
101 | How to Direct a Short
Welcome to part two of our filmmaking micro-retreat! Last time, we learned
to write a script. This time, Shaina Ghuraya, filmmaker, screenwriter, and
Superfest director, will focus on how to use the components of a short
film: props, costumes, lighting, sets, etc., to develop the story and
convey emotion. No need to have attended the first session - all disabled
filmmakers of all levels are welcome!

Series | Disability and Racial Justice Solidarity Panel
We’re getting into the messy middle of our movement with a series of
dicussions on racial justice, aesthetics, artificial intelligence, and
neo-eugenics. For our first panel, Racial and Disability Justice
Solidarity, Sami Schalk, Mel Chen, and Subini Ancy Annamma dig into the
question: While we celebrate another Disability Pride Month and ADA
anniversary, how and why does our mainstream movement still fail to center
BIPOC communities? This event is presented in collaboration with MacArthur
Fellows at 45 and Josh Miele.

Crip | Disability Pride + the ADA
Cafe Crip is a monthly gathering to talk about important topics within our
disability communities. For Disability Pride Month, we’ll discuss the ADA
and Disability Pride—who benefits, who gets left behind, and how they shape
our lives and communities. Optional readings will be provided in advance,
and facilitator Bianca Laureano will guide the conversation with community
agreements and access-centered practices.
