Folks,
This is an event that it would be nice to have chapter turn out for. Loss
of life for pedestrians should be something that as blind people we want to
stand up for. I hope some of you can come and march with us.

Brian – Suggest you let chapter members know about the following event on
Sunday where Jeremy will be a speaker: Sunday at 2 pm in Old Town - the
World Day of Remembrance (WDR) for Traffic Crash Victims. The schedule,
planned speakers at the event, and details are provided below.
- 1:45: Gather at the base of King Street on the waterfront
- 2:00: Kickoff the walk at the waterfront
1. 2:20: Welcome and Remarks by Mike Doyle
2. 2:25: Helaina Roisman—George Washington Hospital Trauma Center
3. 2:30: Chief Mike Brown—Alexandria’s Chief of Police
4. 2:35: Yon Lambert – Director of Transportation & Environmental
Services (T&ES)
5. 2:40: Justin Wilson - Vice Mayor and Mayor Elect of Alexandria City
6. 2:45: Mark Levine – Delegate to the Virginia House of Delegates
7. 2:50: Deyhim Behzadi - Family of Crash Victim
8. 2:55: Jeremy Grandstaff - Call to Action
International World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR) is an
annual event to remember the millions of people killed and injured in
traffic crashes around the world.
*On Sunday, November 18, 2018, please join the members of Alexandria
Families for Safe Streets (AFSS) for a walk of silence from the beginning
of King Street near the Potomac to Market Square to honor those who have
been impacted by traffic crashes.* The walk will begin at 2 pm and will be
followed by a brief ceremony to:
- Call attention to the issue of traffic fatalities and injuries;
- Elevate the voices of those who have been most impacted by traffic
crashes; and
- Promote the Vision Zero goal of zero traffic fatalities and serious
injuries in Alexandria.
AFSS members who have been personally impacted by traffic violence will be
joined at the event by members of Virginia Stata Legislature, Alexandria’s
City Council members, Police Chief Michael Brown, the City’s Transportation
& Environmental Services staff, members of BPAC and other concerned
residents.
