Five days later, the British surrendered in what was to be the last major battle of the American Revolution. Legend has it that the British played the song “World Turned Upside Down” at the surrender, and it’s a line Hamilton sings at Yorktown in Lyn Manuel Miranda’s musical. At Yorktown, Hamilton fought with and against soldiers from America, France, England, and Germany and the siege provided a snapshot of the great scope of what was in many ways a world war.

Chris Daley, historical clothing manager for the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation will give you the opportunity to try on and compare uniform coats of the French, German and American armies, and coats worn by African Americans serving with the British army. Each coat has been carefully researched and painstakingly reproduced in several sizes – from toddler to adult - to help bring the Siege of Yorktown to life. Bring a camera and take photos of yourself and family members in the uniforms of the Revolutionary War. This event includes a reception with beer, wine, and light refreshments.

The reception begins at 7 p.m. with the program beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at shop.alexandria.gov or by calling 703.746.4994.

The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended.
