It is named for <span class=MsoHyperlink><a href="https://holman.lighthouse-sf.org/who-is-james-holman/">James Holman</a></span>, a nineteenth century blind explorer, who was the most prolific traveler of anyone before the era of modern transportation. Each winner will receive $25,000 to fund an adventure. From <span class=MsoHyperlink><a href="http://lighthouse-sf.org/2018/08/14/an-untapped-market-how-ojok-simon-is-training-the-next-generation-of-ugandan-beekeepers/">teaching blind people to be beekeepers in Uganda</a></span>, to <span class=MsoHyperlink><a href="http://lighthouse-sf.org/2018/08/01/to-get-to-the-other-side-the-blind-captain-makes-his-mark/">kayaking solo across the Bosporus Strait</a></span>, to <span class=MsoHyperlink><a href="http://lighthouse-sf.org/2018/07/10/meet-conchita-hernandez-teaching-blindness-across-the-border-with-the-holman-prize/">hosting the first conference in Mexico for blind people led by blind people,</a></span> our past six winners’ projects are as varied as the winners themselves. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>If you know an ambitious blind person who will be 18 or older by October 1, 2019, we ask you to encourage them to apply for the Holman Prize.
