Friends,

Below is a note from Valerie Luther. As you know, Valerie is the First Vice
President of our Richmond Chapter and the President of our Deaf-Blind
Division. She is administering a grant to provide leadership training to
young people with disabilities. This is a great opportunity for some of our
younger leaders and potential leaders. Please pass this information along
to anyone you believe may have an interest.

I am working on a mentoring program that will start in April and run through
the end of August. On the Center for Self-Advocacy Leadership grant I can
include students and young adults (ages 14-30) with any disability. The
mentoring plan is attached. I am wondering if you might be able to help me
find a few mentees (and maybe mentors for them).
There will be 3 mandatory trainings to be held here in Richmond.
The first training will cover training goals, self-determination,
self-advocacy leadership and even though we will be having the training late
in the General Assembly session I will do a session on that too.
The second and third training will be more geared to what the mentees goals
are. Some may be working toward finding jobs (we are supposed to encourage
volunteering with AmeriCorp programs that may be in their areas), working
towards further education or maybe other goals they want to work on. That we
will play by ear.
The third training we will also have some social time and they will receive
their Leaders in Advocacy (LIA) certificates of completion.
Do you know how I might find some possible mentees that might be interested?

Thanks for your help.
