[Nfbv-announce] Richmond's 1st Annual Walk with the Blind a Success!

Fellow Federationists,

 

I am pleased to report the 1st Annual Walk with the Blind sponsored by the
Richmond chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Virginia was
deemed a success! With about 50 participants, a proclaimation from the
governor, state employees and rehabilitation center students in attendance,
and Michael Kasey, our 1st VP on the state level as well as a 10 time walker
in Fredricksburg   all helped to get the crowd excited. We had nearly 20
participating Carytown vendors donate 27 gift certificates which were used
as door prizes for our walkers. The local ABC affiliate here in Richmond,
Channel 8, will be airing a piece on our walk tonight at 11 PM. We will know
the exact amount of funds brought in at the state convention board meeting
but I have heard rumors at least three of our chapter members raised $500.00
each!
