[Nfbv-announce] Building Support for the Governor's Budget Proposal for Inclusion of Teachers for the Blind in the Virginia Standards of Quality

Hi,

We need to meet and build support in the relevant Virginia House and Senate
sub-committees that drive funding for education.

Below I have listed the relevant committee members and their districts. We
need to identify constituents amongst our members or friends in the Senator
or Delegate's districts and meet. I am asking chapter presidents to help me
find members of your chapters who are in the Senator or Delegate's district.
It would be ideal if we could reach out to the offices and request
appointments between now and the first week of January. We recognize that
this is an incredibly busy time for these legislators but we need to
advocate for our blind students.

I have attached the position paper  we can use for this topic. I would be
eager to help you prepare for the appointment. I recommend that we partner
our experienced advocates with the constituent in the district so it is
easier and the meeting is smooth.

Please review the attached document and bring copies to the meeting. 

Find Supporters on the relevant sub-committees: The Senate Finance Education
Sub-Committee and the House Appropriations Elementary and Secondary
Education Sub-Committees are the focus area because this is where the
discussion of the Governor's budget amendment really begins. I have pulled
the details from the web on these members.

For example, Mary Durban can meet with Delegate Tatta   with a Chesapeake
Bay member who lives in Sub-Committee Chair Tata's Virginia Beach district.
The meeting should be scheduled between now and January 9 so we can arm our
team with the relevant information. We should then ask the member to support
the Governor's budget amendment.
