Convention Registration 

 

Convention Registration will be located in Lobby 3 of the Conference Center.
Onsite registration is $25.00. Registration will be open on Friday, October
25 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. and from 5:00 P.M.
to 7:00 P.M. Registration will also be open on Saturday, October 26 from
8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M., 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. and from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00
P.M. Door prizes and auction items can be brought to the registration desk
beginning Friday morning. 

 

Meal Functions 

 

Tickets for all meal functions are available at the registration desk.
Banquet tickets may be purchased onsite for $35.00. Banquet tickets must be
purchased by 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 26. 

 

The cost of Box Lunch tickets for Saturday noon is $14.50 and are only
guaranteed for those who purchased them before October 14. A limited number
may be available for purchase at the registration desk.

 

 

 

 

Banquet Exchange

 

We will have reserved seating at the banquet. Each banquet table will
accommodate eight people. Those wishing to sit together at the banquet
should designate one person to collect banquet tickets from those
individuals wishing to sit together. Those tickets should be brought to the
registration table and exchanged for tickets designating a table number.
Banquet tickets must be exchanged no later than 2:00 P.M. on Saturday.

Door Prizes

 

Door prizes will be drawn periodically throughout convention sessions on
Saturday and Sunday and at the banquet. To be eligible for door prizes, you
must be registered for the convention and present in the room when your name
is called. For more information contact Laurie Wages at (540) 287-5446.

 

Action Auction

 

Throughout the convention, we will be holding an Action Auction to raise
money for the affiliate. The auction will be great fun with many valuable
items up for bid. For more information contact Jacki Brown, Chairperson and
Auctioneer.

 

Contact Table

 

If you are looking for assistance from the NFBV (such as assistance for a
blind student, pursuing vocational rehabilitation training, advocating for
yourself at work, or are seeking advice on a legal matter), please submit
your information and request at the Contact Table. After the convention, a
member of the NFBV will contact you. In addition, if you are interested in
receiving regular updates about our programs and legislative efforts, please
also visit the Contact Table. The table will be open during the board
meeting, after the opening ceremonies on Saturday, at the end of the
banquet, and all morning Sunday. For more information, please contact

NFB-BELLx: Two Weeks in Two Days

 

For the first time, we're bringing our popular, two-week Braille Enrichment
for Literacy and Learning programs to state convention! Even if your blind
or low vision child doesn't read Braille, our "kids only" sessions for
elementary-aged kids will prove to be more than childcare. Through a series
of fun, engaging Braille games led by blind adults and college students,
we'll show how reading Braille can be easy and rewarding. Youth will get the
chance to interact with other blind and low vision kids in their age group
to talk about using canes, having trouble seeing in class, and reading with
large print or Braille. Parents will learn how to reinforce high
expectations and social skills with their blind children. 

 

The BELLx sessions will be held in the Governor Room on Saturday from 9:00
A.M. to noon and from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. and on Sunday from 9:00 A.M to
noon.

Childcare

 

Childcare is available for children of convention attendees in the Executive
Lounge on the 3rd Floor of the hotel. Our experienced childcare workers will
care for infants through fifth graders and will have activities and games to

Assistive Listening Devices

 

Assistive listening devices are available during all convention sessions and
at the banquet. For an assistive listening device, please go to the

Far from any stereotypical employment seminar, this interactive session will
have you laughing with, learning from, and linking with other blind people
who are already working their dream jobs. Everybody knows that you need a
winning resume and cover letter, but you'll learn the two, never-discussed
elements of an application and interview that are virtually guaranteed to
separate you from your competition (and, no, it's not a "thank you" note).
You'll want to send a thank-you to our facilitators, though, who will
explain why you should apply to fewer jobs and go to lunch more often. These
entrepreneurs, managers, and professionals will save you embarrassment and
frustration at work as they share lessons learned about explaining their
blindness with sighted colleagues and managers. We'll also hear from the
world's best networker, who is blind, about how to navigate a cocktail party
or reception so that you'll know who's in the room, where your friends are
seated, and how to be remembered by everyone you meet. And we'll try to
answer that age-old question: when do you ask for a promotion and how do you
do it? This seminar will help you find the next, right step for your career.

The seminar will begin with a brief presentation on key concepts that govern
the provision of vocational rehabilitation services, including a discussion
of the goal of the program, who is eligible, what services are reasonable to
expect, and what recourse do individuals have if they feel they are not
being treated fairly. The seminar will be interactive with the majority of
the time devoted to questions from the audience.
