Dear Students
As excited as we are as a Federation family for the state convention in
Virginia Beach in November, I am even more excited to share the
opportunities and interesting programs that the Student Division has to
offer. Please join your fellow Virginia affiliate students in creating
memories and growing our membership by attending our student programming
during convention. The student's division will have a hand in a variety of
different affiliate events and seminars like the exhibit hall on Friday,
November 11, where we will be fundraising our popular shot glasses, raffle
tickets for a 50/50 prize, and delicious home baked peanut butter cookies.
We will also be providing even more exciting events throughout the weekend
including a delicious breakfast with our affiliate board, a luncheon and
meeting to discuss future division events, panel discussions to address
issues that students face every day at school and at home, and of course the
annual Youth Track that we all love. Also, attendance at these programs also
include a chance for you to win a few door prizes from the Student Division
including a $50 cash prize.
If you are going to attend the convention and you are planning to take part
in our student programming, please send an email to our secretary, Jennifer
Shields, who will be able to count you in the running for door prizes and
add you to the list for the luncheon on Saturday, November 12. Her email
address is jen.shields929 at gmail.com <mailto:jen.shields929 at gmail.com> . We
would like for all students to confirm if they are coming or not by Friday,
October 21, 2016 in order to have an accurate count of how many students to
expect. When you send the email, just include the following in the message
body:
1. Your name:
2. Your Chapter:
3. Contact Information:
4. The days you are attending convention:
5. Your favorite pizza topping:
We look forward to meeting with you and having an exciting weekend on the
ocean front.
Best Regard
Kimberly Valko, President
Virginia Association of Blind Students
National Federation of the Blind of Virginia
The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
