This convention highlight message focuses on topics for Working Age Adults.
Below, we will highlight opportunities throughout our convention weekend.
Thursday, October 27
* Welcome Party - After 3 years apart, please join us in the
Presidential Suite at 6:00 PM for an informal welcome reception with some
light refreshments to kick off the convention in the company of old friends
and new.
* Chocolate Tasting Olympics - Where do you find the best chocolates
in the world? Sharon Soforenko has curated a fine selection of chocolates
from 6 countries. Come learn about the chocolates, taste a sampling, and
vote for your favorites. This 9:00 PM event is limited to the first 50
individuals who register for the Chocolate tasting on the registration form.
Friday, October 28
* General Session starts at 9:00 AM, and our opening ceremonies will
officially kick off this year's convention. Claim your seat early in case
you're among the first to win a door prize!
* What We accomplish as a national organization Together - We're doing
great things in Virginia, but did you also know we're making a tremendous
impact across the country? Learn about our national accomplishments from our
Executive Director for Advocacy & Policy, John Pare.
* Learn CPR and First Aid - Are you interested in learning how to
administer adult and pediatric CPR? Do you want to know the proper
intervention if an adult, child, or infant is choking? Learn the skills to
protect your family and your community. This class is limited to the first
20 class registrants and registration is achieved by emailing

* Latin Night - Immerse yourself in our evening celebration of Latin
munchies, music, and dance. Let down your hair and join us for this
energetic celebration!
* Discover the latest in emerging assistive technology! - Why read
about interesting gadgets when you could experience them? Why take our word
for excellent services across Virginia when you could talk directly to the
people who offer them? You will find these and other services at our exhibit
hall.
* Public Meeting on DBVI Divisions, Programs and Services - As one of
our key partners, it's always a pleasure to hear from the commissioner. Come
hear all about his future plans and vision for blind Virginians during the
morning General Session. Then, Bring your questions and comments to the
Public Meeting at 5:00 PM. Let your voice be heard!
Saturday, October 29
* Federation Success - Hear how one of our Virginia and national
student leaders, Mausam Mehta, is achieving her dreams and serving as a role
model based on lessons from our Virginia Federation community.
* What We Accomplish Together in Virginia - Hear about our
accomplishments throughout Virginia during the Presidential Report
* Conquer Vispero's Accessible Escape Room - This casino themed, team
building activity allows you to have fun while solving puzzles together. And
no, we do not lock you in.
* Flex your mind and muscles in our self-defense, yoga, and cardio
fitness workshops - Learn the techniques and strategies to engage in fitness
at a health club or in your local community in the morning General Session
then apply these techniques in fitness and self-defense classes in the
afternoon. Bring clothes to exercise so you can enjoy one of our three class
options.
* Hear from 3 blind teachers on how they deliver instruction and
manage the classroom.
* The Best You" Resetting your Mindset. We will focus on four points:
cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well being. this station-based
afternoon session which will consist of self-esteem building, networking,
dressing well, and Health and Wellness will be a great opportunity for
everyone!
* Costume Banquet - The Saturday Evening Banquet is a highlight of the
convention featuring an inspiring address from National Federation of the
Blind Executive Director for Advocacy and Policy, John Pare. This year's
banquet will be a costume party so feel free to express yourself and share
your tasteful creativity. Our roving reporters will come by to conduct brief
interviews so be ready to share your costume details
Sunday, October 30
* Inter-Faith Breakfast - How can your faith community provide you
opportunities to build your network, try new skills, and grow your
leadership? Join us for this engaging breakfast and learn from role models
who are fully participating in their local organizations.
* The future of Access Technology Training- You already know that the
way we learn is changing dramatically. What is the future of how you learn
skills and access technology in our Web 3 world? We have brought leaders and
instructors who are driving these trends to share the path forward and
address questions.
The National Federation of the Blind of Virginia Convention combines
excellent networking with positive blind role models, fellowship with old
and new friends across the Commonwealth, and some of the best presentations
on topics important to the blind of Virginia
