Business Session at VA State Convention

Meeting Minutes

Oct 30, 2022

 

Sean McMahon, Audit committee chair provided the Audit Committee Report. The
committee verified financial transactions and found the financial records of
the affiliate to be in proper order. The committee stated that the quarterly
reports shared with the board of directors at quarterly board meetings were
thorough and complete. Since account reconciliations are completed monthly,
some committee members questioned whether monthly reporting to the board
might provide greater transparency.  It was uncertain if more frequent
reporting added sufficient value given the greater workload.

The report was approved.

 

Mark Roane delivered the treasurer's report, stating the affiliate's general
checking account balance as of September 30, 2022, as $69345.59.

The report was approved.

 

Renee Valdez delivered the nominating committee report. The committee
presented the slate as:

*	President: Tracy Soforenko
*	1st Vice President: Sandy Halverson
*	2nd Vice President: Uricka Harrison
*	Corresponding secretary: Jacki Bruce
*	Recording secretary: Christine Grassman
*	Treasurer: Mark Roane

The report was approved.

 

We heard the Diversity Equity and Inclusion committee report.

 

After many years of challenges with membership recruitment and engagement,
the members of the Fredericksburg Chapter have decided to disband the
chapter.  Consistent with the chapter's constitution, the chapter's funds
will be retained separately within the Virginia affiliates treasury for a
period of two years. If a chapter can be re-organized in this time, the
funds will be returned to the newly re-organized chapter.

The motion was approved.

 

We proceeded to the elections process. Chapter and division reports were
read during the voting periods.

Tracy Soforenko was elected as President.

Sandy Halverson was elected as 1st Vice President.

Uricka Harrison was elected as 2nd Vice President.

Christine Grassman was elected as Recording Secretary.

Jacki Bruce was elected as Corresponding Secretary.

Mark Roane was elected as Treasurer.

 

Deepa Goraya delivered the NFBV resolutions.

Division reports were presented during voting periods.

All resolutions passed.

 

Deepa Goraya delivered the Washington Seminar report. Seminar will be held
from Jan 30 to Feb 2, 2023, at the Holiday Inn Capital.

 

Bonnie O'Day delivered the Richmond Seminar report, stating that it will be
conducted from Jan 16 to Jan 17, 2023.
