Hello!
I am writing today to let you know that we are offering two verbal
description tours this summer centered around the new tactile installation
of President Lincon's face mask and hand casts.
Located in the "America's Presidents" exhibition, the tactile installation
consists of a free-standing display with 3D-printed reproductions of the
casts, which date from 1917 and are located nearby in a glass-enclosed case.
The casts are based on molds that were made during Lincoln's lifetime: one
face mask was made in 1860, and the other mask and a set of two hands were
made in 1865. In addition to the tactile, we will also explore, through
verbal descriptions and storytelling, other nearby portraits of Abraham
Lincoln: a recently acquired life size oil painting of Lincoln by W.F.K.
Travers, and the iconic "cracked plate" photograph by Alexander Gardner.
Tour dates are June 27 at 5-6 pm, and July 13 at 1-2 pm. Please select one
date, as the same tour will be repeated. Registration is required by
emailing me at jonesve at si.edu <mailto:jonesve at si.edu> or replying to this
email. Space will be limited in order to ensure a positive experience for
everyone, so sign up soon to attend this lively and and participatory tour
experience!
Please share this email with others who might be interested.
Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
All the best,
Vanessa
