GENERAL ASSEMBLY BUILDING
The General Assembly building is located on the southeast corner of the
intersection of 9th and Broad streets, directly across Broad street from
Richmond City Hall. 9th street is a one way street with traffic heading
north. Broad street has two way traffic heading east and west. The address
for the building is 201 North 9th street, however, There are no public
entrances on 9th street. The public entrance is located on Broad street
close to 9th street.
When you enter the building, you will be facing south. You will turn
several times as you go through the security screening area. When you exit
the security screening area and enter the main lobby, you will be facing
east.
Directly across the main lobby, there is a long information desk that runs
north and south. At this point, you have two choices. If you turn north
and go to that end of the information desk, you will find a corridor that
runs east towards the elevator lobby. If you turn south and go to that end
of the information desk, you will find a corridor that runs east towards the
elevator lobby. The elevator lobby runs north and south between these two
corridors and has four elevators on each side.
Senators offices are located on floors 5 and 6. Delegates offices are
located on floors 7 through 12. Leadership offices are located on floor 14.
Regardless of which office floor you are on, if you exit the elevator lobby
on the north end, you will be near office number 1 and if you exit the
elevator lobby on the south end, you will be near office number 11. Office
numbers increase as you travel clockwise around each floor.
Remember that there are no public coat rooms in the building. If you
contact your Senator or Delegate, in advance, they may be able to store your
items for you, but, there is no guarantee of this. Be prepared to carry
your coat and luggage with you throughout your visit.
