Hey NFB Family and Friends,
Welcome to another edition of Member to Member. This week we'll get to know
more about Chris Walker from our Winchester Chapter.
Chris has been a part of our NFB Family since 2015. He started at the
national level he then joined the At Large Chapter where he learned about
Winchester chapter. Chris participated in the Virginia fellowship program.
Under the guidance and mentorship of Charlie Brown, Chris thrived. He
remembers the first time he had to speak in public, "I was super nervous! I
took a breath and recalled everything I had learned and it got easier!"
Chris was elected VP of his chapter, he Was Jackie Brown's predecessor
"those were HUGE shoes to fill" Chris chuckles.
Chris has been President of the Winchester Chapter, he's been involved with
fundraising, been a member of the DEI Committee, a talking sign, a team lead
in Richmond Seminar etc., etc. "I've been all around the Affiliate", Chris
says. In addition to the NFB, Chris is a member of his local lions club and
chamber of commerce. Chris enthusiastically states "we are not just taking,
we are giving back".
If you know Chris at all, you know he loves to cook! He calls himself Chef
Chris. He also enjoys hanging out with friends, going on trips to the beach,
Going to conventions both state and national, and Living everyday life. He
maybe, possibly, might pick up a good book, movie, or podcast. His tastes
vary, he Likes many different things. He's always open to all types of
adventures.
Chris was adopted in Bangkok Thailand and he grew up in Virginia. He has
lead an interesting life, including his work life. He's worked in
restaurants, banks, casinos, insurance, and has been an account executive.
One of Chris's favorite memories is getting his citizenship in 2014. When he
was adopted, his parents thought he was already a citizen but found out
later he only had a green card. He became a citizen in his 40's. Chris says
"the whole courtroom was crying when I was awarded my citizenship!"
Chris has a number of to do's on his bucket list, he wants to sky dive, go
on a cruise and he most definitely wants to visit Thailand, he hasn't been
there since his adoption. He would like to spend at least a month, learning
his roots and absorbing the culture.
Chris is a giver, if he won the lottery, he would "take care of myself first
but then would help people in need and organizations who help people in
need. We should all give back and pay it forward!"
Thanks, Chris, for sharing and letting us get to know you better! See you
next week with another edition of Member to Member.
Peace,
Jacki Bruce
