We wanted to remind everyone that this Saturday, August 15th at the Casual
Pint of Dunn Loring we are having a chapter social with a beer and cider
tasting.  

 

The reference sheet for the tasting is in the bottom of this message.

We hope to see as many of you as possible so we can all share our stories of
the summer, the national convention, and even our hopes for the upcoming
state convention.

Discover a new cider with some old friends.  

 

Or just soak up the fellowship and good vibes of like-minded people who want
to see and hear about your journey.

 

We look forward to a fantastic afternoon of community, celebration, and
great tasting experiences with all of you!

 

For those who want to know a little bit before the tasting, the venue sent
us this small fact sheet.

 

Lager - A lager is a crisp, clean, and refreshing style of beer that is
fermented with bottom-lowering yeast and aged in cold storage. 

Pilsner - Crisp and dry with a clean finish, featuring herbal or spicy
notes.

Hefewiezen - Wheat beer defined by its cloudy look, high wheat content, and
unique banana and clove flavors.

Cider - Hard Cider can be Sweet to Dry and offer a subtle to strong fruit
flavor. Little to no bitterness.

Sour - Flavor profiles can range from tart to sweet. Fruit is generally very
upfront.  A number of this style include Lactose to create a marshmallow
undertone.

American IPA - A hop-forward style known for its prominent citrus, pine, and
floral hop characteristics, moderate-to-high bitterness, and clean malt
balance.

Hazy IPA - Also called a New England  or Juicy IPA it tastes like tropical
fruits such as mango, pineapple, and citrus. Has a soft mouthfeel, and low
bitterness. 

Amber - Taste of caramel, toffee, toast, and nuts and moderate hop
bitterness.

Brown - a dark malt-forward beer style featuring flavors of caramel, nuts,
and chocolate with low hop bitterness.

Porter - Notes of chocolate, toffee, caramel, and light nuttiness with a
moderate hop bitterness.

Stout - Dominated by notes of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, and a
slight bitterness.

Nitro - Beer infused with a blend of nitrogen and carbon dioxide gases.
Creates a silky mouthfeel and mutes hop aromas.  Generally used with Stouts
and Porters.

 

 

Alcohol by volume or ABV measures the percentage of pure alcohol found in a
drink.  Beer and Cider tend to range between 4% to 12%.  If a beer or cider
has the word Imperial to describe what style it is, it will have an ABV of
7.5% or greater.  The highest recognized ABV for a beer in the world is 75%
(Beithir Fire)
