Austin isn’t just hosting the NFB national convention—it’s the fun you get to have in between sessions!
When your custom agenda wraps for the day, you can head straight into Austin’s legendary live music scene, with bands playing everything from blues and country to rock and indie in bars and venues all over downtown. Grab tacos from a late‑night food truck, line up for famous Texas barbecue, or wander South Congress for coffee and dessert.
If you want to unwind outdoors, you can stroll or roll along the Ann and Roy Butler Trail around Lady Bird Lake, relax in Zilker Park, or just enjoy the skyline from the waterfront. On a free afternoon, you might tour the Texas State Capitol, check out local museums, or explore Austin’s quirky shops and murals that give the city its “keep Austin weird” vibe. Barton Springs Pool is spring fed and stays around 68–70 degrees year‑round, which feels wonderfully icy on a blazing Austin summer day.
Austin provides an excellent backdrop to this year’s largest gathering of blind and low vision people and related professionals. The agenda is so robust that it helps to divide the must do from the could do from the just plain don’t want to do. If you are a convention rookie, it helps to pick up some helpful tips from seasoned veterans, and if you are a convention pro, you may have suggestions on how to make convention a smooth and seamless experience for everyone, new and familiar guests alike. Like, did you know you could save a little money by scooping up snacks from the hospitality suites?
Wait, where are the hospitality suites?
