We are calling people with disabilities and anyone interested in disability
rights advocacy and public policy to an open forum about barriers to full
and equal access in transportation options. We will discuss cabs/taxis,
private ride sharing services (such as Uber and Lyft), WMATA (metro, buses,
and MetroAccess paratransit), parking spaces and disability placards, and
current DC initiatives to improve transit accessibility. Our speakers will
also discuss how transportation can be accessible for people with different
types of disabilities, what problems exist now, and what advocates and
organizers can do to change those problems.

*Patrick Cokley* is an Employer Policy Advisor in the Office of Disability
Employment Policy at the U.S. Department of Labor. In this position, he
provides in depth analysis on current public policy, policy priorities,
policy development, and policy coordination of topic concerning employers
and the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the workplace. Some
of his main points of expertise include emergency preparedness for
individuals with disabilities in the workplace, as well as the relationship
between diversity issues and disability in the workplace. Prior to joining
the Department of Labor, Mr. Cokley worked at the Institute for Educational
Leadership where he provided technical assistance for the Kellogg
Foundation sponsored Kellogg Leadership for Community Change Project, and
the School Leadership Learning Community Program sponsored by the
Department of Education. Mr. Cokley is a graduate of Howard University in
Washington, DC and holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science.

*Carol Tyson* is a Senior Policy Associate at United Spinal Association.
Carol is a resident of the District and focuses on transportation, home and
community based services, Medicaid, housing, and disability rights policy.
Previously, Carol interned at the National Council on Independent Living
(NCIL). Carol served for many years as a senior strategic researcher in the
labor movement, working to support and improves the lives of janitors and
other service professionals in the U.S. and Australia. Carol serves as a
Co-Chair of the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities Transportation
Taskforce and on the steering committee of the Transportation Equity
Caucus. Carol graduated from Northern Arizona University, and received a
Master of Arts in Philosophy from Miami University and a Graduate
Certificate in Disability Studies from Temple University.

*The Washington Metro Disabled Students Collective seeks to unite disabled
students/students with disabilities throughout the Washington Metro area
(including Maryland and Northern Virginia) to collaborate in organizing for
disability access, equality, and inclusion on our campuses. We strive to
work intersectionally across queer, trans*, gender, race, class,
immigration, and faith issues through organizing for disability rights.*

Voices can echo in this space but it should mostly be our own noise.

We will have name tags available for everyone with scent-free markers. You
should write your preferred name. You can choose to write your pronouns on
your name tag (encouraged but optional). Important: Even though we will
have name tags, you must also introduce yourself verbally (if you use
speech or AAC) or in ASL.
