Learn about the Solar Eclipse program for the vision impaired

Access Services Solar Eclipse Audio, Braille and Tactile Display
In preparation for the total solar eclipse of the continental United States on August 21, 2017, the Access Services<http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/friends/as/> branch of Fairfax County Public Library will host exhibits to provide a better understanding of eclipses. The exhibits are on display at the Access Services branch, Fairfax County Public Library, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 123, Fairfax Virginia, 22035 for the entire month of August; and at the Government Center complex main lobby from August 14 to August 21, 2017.

The universally-designed display for both people with and without vision loss will incorporate a talking tactile globe of the earth and tactile astronomy materials from NASA. These materials combine large print and contracted braille with embossed shapes and colorful wavelength tactile images of objects. Free solar viewing glasses will be provided during the exhibit.

In addition to this, a tactile book from the NASA Solar System Exploration Virtual Institute titled "Getting a Feel for Eclipses" is available for your viewing and reading pleasure at all solar eclipse programs offered by Fairfax County Public Library. Please visit the Fairfax County Public Library web site <http://librarycalendar.fairfaxcounty.gov/calendar.php?t=s&q=eclipse&sa=0&cid=6524&sort=1> for a list of associated events.
