The Fairfax Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Virginia will
be holding its annual elections for all 6 board positions at our November
18, 2021 meeting.  This was  announced at both our September and October
meetings.

Chapter member John Bailey will be collecting names of those Chapter members
interested in running for any of the board positions.  Please contact John
prior to our November meeting to have your name added to the slate of
nominees.  Additional nominations will be accepted up until immediately
prior to the vote for the desired position.  More informtion about the
election and board positions  is found further down in this announcement.

Patrick Timony, Adaptive Services Librarian at the MLK DC Public Library,
will be our guest speaker for our November meeting.  He will be sharing
exciting news and updates on their return to in-person technology classes on
using screen readers and other assistive technology.  He will also highlight
their new introductory braille class and other services for blind patrons.
These services are available to anyone regardless of where you reside.

Classes are taught by librarians and volunteers who are experts on the
curriculum topics. Come hear this exciting program to learn how their free
services can enrich your life!

All six (6) board positions of the Fairfax Chapter of the National
Federation of the Blind of the Virginia Affiliate (NFBV) are for 1-year and
are voted on annually by the Fairfax Chapter Membership.  Any Fairfax
Chapter member who is in good standing may run for any of the 6 board
positions.  A member may nominate themselves, or they can be nominated by
another Fairfax Chapter member in good standing only if they have granted
the member permission to nominate them.

Description of Board Position Responsibilities

*	President: oversees all chapter activities.   Facilitates and
coordinates a collaborative environment to support the work of committees
and the Chapter as a whole.  Attends monthly Chapter meetings and board
meetings.  This position is the face of the chapter at state events.
*	Vice President: Attends monthly Chapter meetings and board meetings.
Assists the President with Chapter business.  Can chair and be a member of
Chapter committees.  When the President is unavailable, represents the
chapter at state events and runs meetings.  
*	Secretary: Attends monthly Chapter meetings and board meetings.
Takes notes during all meetings.  Maintains documents and records related to
Chapter business.  Can chair and be a member of Chapter committees.  
*	Treasurer: Attends monthly Chapter meetings and board meetings.
oversees all Chapter related money matters including managing the Chapter
bank account, disbursing Chapter funds as approved by the Chapter, and keeps
the President and membership up-to-date on deposits, withdrawal, and account
balance.  Can chair and be a member of Chapter committees.  
*	General Board Member (2 positions): Attends monthly Chapter meetings
and board meetings. Contributes to decisions related to Chapter business and
mattered handled by the Board.  Can chair and be a member of Chapter
committees.
