All:
We’ve got a small contingent of people who have signed up to assist with the BEAM event at Skyline House on Monday, October 14, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.
We will be:
* Answering questions about blindness in a way which expresses our positive blindness philosophy;
* Demonstrating assistive technology;
* Demystifying Orientation and Mobility techniques, cane use, and dog guide use;
* Using this opportunity to inform people about the Ride Rally as a current effort of the organization;
* Reading to children and/or adults from Braille books;
* Brailling, for $1 donation apiece, names and/or short messages.
I have at least one Braillewriter that works, and might have two.
I have Braille magazines and plenty of index cards, labels, and laminated cards to Braille on.
I can bring my iPhone, Apple Watch, a BT Speak, and the NLS EReader.
I would prefer not to have to lug my MacBook as well, so if anyone wants to bring a Windows or Apple computer/tablet to show JAWS or VoiceOver, feel free.
We will likely get questions about: traveling, cooking, clothing choices/how we make our outfit decisions, and perhaps some real doozies. You just never know.
If anyone is interested and can be available for this effort, please write to me right away, and do your best to come to the 4:30 PM FRiday, October 11, planning meeting for which I will send out a link Friday around noon.
It would be helpful to have folks arrive around noon to help lug snacks, technology, and other items to the meeting room and to establish our various “stations”.
The location will be:
West Penthouse Party Room at Skyline House, 3711 S. George Mason Drive, Falls Church, VA 22041.
We will gather afterwards and order pizza or something of that nature.
Please recruit a chapter member or two for this effort.
Also, if anyone has Braille alphabet cards, that would be helpful, or I will have to Braille them.
Christine
