[NFBV-Fairfax] Fantastic Recipe Manager App: Paprika (Summer Sizzle Meeting Resource)

 At our Summer Sizzle chapter meeting, one of the great resources shared was the Paprika Recipe Manager. Ameenah described how this app strips all the gunk: ads, images, extraneous stuff of all varieties, from recipes found online: in articles, on recipe web sites, etc. 

It is $4.99 compatible with iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

I have not checked, but suspect that it is also available for Android.



Below is a little VoiceOver tutorial for this app. Keep in mind that updates may change the way apps behave, and I do not personally use the app, so cannot vouch for this. 

But it sounds like a phenomenal app if you love to cook and despise working your way through all the clutter that often accompanies online recipes.

1. Navigating the App



At the bottom of the screen are tabs: Recipes, Browser, Groceries, Meals, and Pantry.
Swipe left or right with one finger to move through items.
Double-tap to select a tab.




2. Adding a Recipe from the Web



Select the Browser tab.
Use the address bar to go to a recipe website, or choose a bookmarked site.
Navigate to a recipe using swipe gestures or rotor headings.
When on a recipe page, find and double-tap the “Download” or “Save” button.
Review the auto-filled recipe details. You can edit fields if needed.
Double-tap the Save button to add it to your collection.




3. Viewing and Reading a Saved Recipe



Go to the Recipes tab.
Swipe to find a recipe or use the Search bar at the top.
Double-tap to open a recipe.
Navigate by headings to jump to Ingredients, Directions, Notes, etc.
Each ingredient and step is listed in a readable format.




4. Cooking Mode



When viewing a recipe, double-tap the “Start Cooking” button.
Steps are shown one at a time for focused reading.
Use swipe gestures or the on-screen next/previous buttons to move between steps.
VoiceOver reads each step clearly.




5. Adding Ingredients to Grocery List



Open a recipe.
Find and double-tap “Add to Grocery List.”
The ingredients will be added to the Groceries tab.
In Groceries, items are grouped by category. Swipe to read them.
Double-tap an item to mark it as purchased.




6. Meal Planning



Go to the Meals tab.
Swipe to find the day you want to plan for.
Double-tap “Add Recipe.”
Choose from your saved recipes.




Accessibility Notes



Most buttons and fields are labeled clearly.
You can use the rotor to navigate by headings when reading recipes.
Focus may sometimes jump unexpectedly when switching tabs but the layout is consistent.
