Hi everyone,

Important and timely announcements in this email update. Please take a
moment to read through and let Christine or I know how we can support you.

Have you renewed your membership so you can vote?

A huge thanks to our Treasurer, Ameenah Ghoston, as she has been working
tirelessly to get our treasury back in order. We appreciate your support
and patience during this clean up; and now it is time to renew those
membership dues, especially since we are also getting ready for our next
board elections.

Your dues must be paid by November 22, in order to cast your vote in our
upcoming board elections.

Chapter dues are $5 (and you can always choose to donate more to support
our work). In fact, it is easy to pay your dues by choosing one of the
following ways:

Ø The chapter has Zell for electronic transfers: Send your electronic dues
via Zell to NFBFairfax at gmail.com (include a note to tell us about your
donation, like 2025 dues)

Ø If you are having any trouble at all with getting your dues paid by the
voting deadline or need to pay with cash or check, please contact Jeremy
Grandstaff at 614-519-3026 for assistance.

Upcoming Fairfax Chapter meeting and Board Vote—Your attendance is both
important and requested.

The next meeting of the Fairfax Chapter will take place on Saturday,
November 22, from Noon to 1:30 PM Eastern. We will be voting on new board
members, providing more details on upcoming December events, gaining
insights on national happenings, providing updates on federal advocacy and
wins, and learning more about takeaways from our recent NFBV convention. We
have a lot to cover and, for those who attend and stay until the end, we
are drawing a $50 gift certificate for your favorite store. Do not miss the
learning, the growth, and yes, the shaping of our leadership team for 2026
and beyond.

You can join the meeting in the following ways:

Legislative Meetings Create Wins

On November 7, four members of the Fairfax Chapter met with our
Congressman, James Walkinshaw, and his Legislative Assistant, Jaelin
Lespier, to discuss the recent reductions in force (RIFs) affecting the
Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) and related
concerns about the future of critical blindness programs. Huge thanks to
Christine Grassman, Gary Grassman, and Jade Ham, who joined me (Jeremy) for
this critical and important legislative meeting. The Congressperson is on
the oversight committee, and the stories and impacts we discussed with him
hit home, informed his decision-making, and actions that he will take well
into 2026. You can read the full report we submitted to National by
following this link.

As this meeting was just one of many held by NFB members across the Common
Wealth and the country, I personally believe that these meetings helped to
inform our legislators and, yes, maybe even helped to create the
legislation that reopened the government and even temporarily got rid of
the RIFs that we were fighting against. Paraphrasing Margret Meade, always
believe that a small group of citizens can create change, as it is the only
thing that ever has.
