Eastern Market Metrorail Station

Escalator Replacement Project

       Metro is pleased to announce an upcoming project to replace all three
escalators at the Eastern Market Metrorail station. These escalators were
installed in 1977, and to ensure our customers continue to receive the level
of reliability of the escalators they have come to expect, Metro needs to
replace each one. Each escalator will be replaced one at a time, leaving the
two other escalators in operation, one going up and one going down. The
project is scheduled to begin on February 13, 2017. The project is expected
to be completed in two years.

Project Schedule and Other Information

*       February 13, 2017 - Project Start Date

*       Spring 2019 - Estimated Project Completion 

*       Access to the station will not be impacted by this project.

This project is part of the Metro Forward capital-rebuilding program that
will fully replace more than 128 escalators in the system by 2020. This
project also continues improvements Metro has made recently at the Eastern
Market station, including the complete renovation of the station's
elevators.

Metro Seeks Comment on the

REALITYCHECK 

FY18 Budget Proposal

As a result of increasing expenses required to operate and maintain the
Metro system, as well as a decline in Metro ridership, Metro's Fiscal Year
(FY) 2018 budget has a gap of $290 million. To fill that gap Metro is
proposing fare adjustments and service adjustments, in addition to
additional support from state and local governments. Metro already is
undertaking in-house adjustments to help fill the gap as well including the
elimination of up to 1,000 positions and other cost cutting measures.

Metro would like to hear from you on the FY18 budget proposals. The public
comment period is from January 14, 2017 until 9:00 a.m. Monday, February 6,
