Hello Colleagues,

At our meeting next Thursday or by email let Deepa or me know of your interest in this seminar.

This is a great idea.

Sandy has done some work in this area. All who are interested may help.

Thank you.

John

Subject: Requesting Audio Description Seminar Planning Committee volunteers

Good morning Gentlemen,
I hope this note finds you doing well. I know I have spoken to some of you regarding recruitment of individuals who would be able to assist me in planning the upcoming Greater Alexandria chapter #Audio Description Seminar for June. As you may know, before you even know it, Memorial day weekend will soon be here.
So, what is this #Audio Description seminar?
Picture a big square room with various stations and all the mainstream streaming and cable providers at tables with TV's and demoing equipment of audio description services. One station could have Comcast, the next station would be Verizon FIOS, the next station would be Cox Communications, the next station could be Netflix, the next station would be Amazon Firestick, the next station could be Apple TV, the next station could be the Kennedy Center the next station could be Blind Mice, the next station could be AMC Theaters, and we should also have Describe-You(which is an online forum which describes YouTube videos) and the developer could possibly join us via Skype.
There are some blind individuals who know how to use audio description on these devices or at these places while there could be others that do not. We could even have individuals sign up with these providers at the conclusion of the seminar as users.
I am thinking of either Saturday, June 2nd, Saturday, June 9th or Saturday, June 23rd. Obviously, finding the perfect date for everyone will not work but I would also like for the vice president of Comcast accessibility, Tom who is blind to come to our seminar and hang out at the Comcast booth. I have already spoken to Eliza Findley, the DMV regional rep for Comcast outreach and accessibility and her team is trying to fine-tune details with Tom to come with a savvy Comcast technician. We would also like to apply for a grant for our seminar to provide snacks.
I would like for the seminar to be at least five hours; from 10am-3pm or 11am-4pm.
I know there will be upcoming chapter meetings and please discuss at your chapter meetings but I would like to have an individual from each chapter perhaps by next Friday so please disseminate to your list or if you know someone who will be committed to serving on this planning committee, please submit name and email/phone number.

I would greatly appreciate it.

With Warmest Regards,

Evelyn Valdez
1st VP, Greater Alexandria Chapter
