Potomac Chapter Minutes

May 8, 2024



The meeting was held on Zoom and in person at St. George's Church. The meeting quickly started with a warm introduction by Bonnie O'Day introducing Delegate Patrick Hope. Bill is a Member of the Virginia General Assembly as the Delegate from the 1st District of the Commonwealth of Virginia and was re-elected for his eighth term in 2023.

 Delegate Hope has been a huge advocate for the passage of the HB516 bill that allows prescription drug labels be provided for blind and disabled users. The bill requires the Board of Pharmacy to promulgate regulations implementing the provisions of the bill no later than December 31, 2024.

He discussed his journey with passing the bill and he stated that without the strong blind community advocating so strong, this bill would not have passed.

Patti asked about the voting online. Julie commented her on her legal background and raised the issues of on discrimination family law. He asked if she could pass the information and will follow up on that.

Sandy announced that it was time for a break and asked Gary of what was on the table. Gary stated what they were, cookies, salami and cheese, vegetable plane and drinks.

Sandy called for break time. Gary spoke of what was offered on the table in the back. He provided outstanding cookies, salami, cheese and cracker, fruit and vegetable

platters along with several types of refreshments.

Sandy called for the meeting to start again and stated that this was a great in-person turnout and it's been a long time since we had this kind of turnout.

Sandy had everyone introduced themselves both from zoom and those who attended in person.

Tracy first wanted to expressed his appreciation to Bonnie for her efforts for "making it work tonight" regarding Delegate Hope's presentation.

Tracy spoke about the May 11 board meeting. The meeting will be open to everyone and will take place from 10:00 AM to

12:00 PM at the training center in Richmond.

Tracey inducted the officers in their elected positions in the Potomac Chapter. Sandy Halverson, Julie Roscoe, LeRoy Hansen, John Halverson, Bonnie Stowell, Shawn McMann, Gary Moore, Patty Droppers, and Lizzy Muhammad-Park. The board recited the pledge.

Sandy congratulated Julie on passing the bar.

The treasurer's report was email to the chapter and was accepted.

John discussed the auction and thanked those who donated. He is putting the items on the website. He invited other chapters to participate. Julie was looking for musicians to play at the auction. There will be a $20 entry fee to cover food and room rental. John is going to bring a couple boxes of wine to share and enjoy so that people can buy more.

Sandy stated that Jackie will be the auctioneer. Sandy mentioned that chapter folks will be contacted to help on the day of the auction, such as setting up, assisting with the auction items, assisting with the food and refreshments, breaking down and cleaning up.

Tracy stated his wife Sharon will be donating jewelry since she is now  retired and no longer needs to wear jewelry for work.  He asked the chapter member to donate whatever unique items you may have around the house.

Sandy asked if anyone has any ideas on legislated matters or ideas to reach out to Lizzy and Tracy.

chapter members were reminded to pay their dues if they are still owed.

Tracy encouraged everyone to attend the national convention. The affiliate has a program that provides funding to first-time attendees, and the deadline is June first. He recommended

everyone to check out the program.
Meeting was adjourned at 9pm.
