Minutes: PCNFB Meeting for November 13, 2024
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by First Vice President Julie Orozco. There were ten in-person participants and six people on Zoom.
The October 9 chapter minutes were read and accepted.
The Treasurer's Report covering the period from October 9 through November 13 was accepted. The beginning General Fund Balance as of October 9 was $7,627.28. Total income for this period was $1,750.00. Total disbursements for this period were $4,305.20. The ending balance for the General Fund as of November 13 is $5,072.08. The Youth Fund remains unchanged with a balance of $1,000.00.
State Convention Discussion. We were reminded to fill out the Convention Survey which will close on November 15. The main issue of convention was the new sound system. People at the Information Table in the Hall and those at the back of the room couldn't hear the agenda presentations. Even those further in the room had difficulties at times understanding what was going on. We know that this is a work in progress! Sandy Halverson said she particularly enjoyed the presentation on the blind prisoners' suit which NFBV brought against the State Department of Corrections, and which we won. Julie Orozco noted there were many more blind parents in the blind parenting group, and the meeting of sighted partners was also enjoyed. Someone wanted to know when the agenda presentation recordings would be up on the website.
Holiday Party. This year, we will have a combined celebration for all the chapters in Northern Virginia. This will occur on Saturday, December 14, in Arlington from 4 pm until 10 pm at the Lyon Village Community House, 1920 North Highland Street. Our chapter will take care of the caterer, with games and other fun activities organized by the Greater Alexandria Chapter. People can choose either salmon with Havanero sauce, Peruvian chicken skewers, or eggplant parmesan. Meals will also include salad, mashed potatoes, green beans, and strawberry shortcake. Meal choices need to be in by early December. The cost per person will be $30.
Leroy Hansen arranged to have a member of our chapter speak on Saturday, November 16, to a class of Virginia Tech students studying community planning. Sandy Halverson will conduct this presentation.
Presidential Release. Due to technical difficulties, the release was not played.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
