Subject: [Nfbv-announce] Free Orientation and Mobility Training Through Columbia Lighthouse for Northern Virginia Residents
The Columbia Lighthouse For the Blind (CLB) is able to offer Orientation and Mobility Training to Northern Virginia, DC and Suburban Maryland residents right away based on a generous government grant. You do not need to have an open case with the department. This training can include all aspects of travel training and is quite flexible. But you should act quickly to secure training while the grant funding is available. Northern Virginia is defined to be quite huge so don’t feel this is limited by close proximity to DC.
There is no limitation on age. Details and the contact point is provided below and attached.
In addition, a full range of vocational rehabilitation and blindness skills training (technology, independent living, Braille and other blindness skills) is available to Arlington residents based on a generous grant from Arlington County. Olivia Norman is the contact person for the Arlington County broader program as well.

• Evaluation of O&M needs or skills • Working with a human guide
• Indoor/outdoor cane training • How to use landmarks and
• How to cross streets and intersections clues
• Orientation to find your place of employment • How to use compass
or school campus directions
• How to use public transportation including, • Map reading skills
taxis, buses, and Metro trains
