Message from the NFB Winchester Communication Committee:

Hello, per our discussion in the most recent NFB Meeting, held on February
18, 2023 – we shared the results of a survey sent out to all chapter
members. We asked 3 open-ended questions sent to all members via survey.
Outlined below are the results of this survey.

Question 1: What do you think the Chapter is doing well (so we know and we
can continue doing it).

Response #1: Likes having committees, relieves strain on the president and
keeping the ball rolling in the same direction. We’ve never had committees.
Maybe another tech person to help Wayne.

People are typically more interested in the fun aspect: People like the
social aspect (Social Club).

Tip: if we find something that we like and we want to post a notice that
we meet monthly: bring it to the report and put it up for a vote.

Maybe restrict length of business aspect of meeting. Maybe limit business
information sharing to an hour and 30 minutes to network? Just a suggestion

--

Response #2: Outreach. We do a great job working with other organizations
and meeting with the public and educating them about the NFB.

--

Response #3 The Chapter has superb leadership in Chris Walker. His
willingness to keep chapter members engaged, as well as his availability
for speaking engagements is what keeps the chapter vital.

--

Response #4 Commitment. The longstanding members show up, without fall,
every single week. The roots run deep in the chapter, which is great.

Question 2: Where do you think the chapter can improve (anything you would
like to see us doing to refine on focus)

Response #1: We’re doing more than we ever have. Keep doing what we’re
doing.

Things are changing and we’re glad they’re changing if not for Chris, Jim,
Wayne, and James.

--

Response #2 Find a way to reach the school systems (Winchester, Frederick,
and Clarke) to let them know we are here to help them with acquiring
teaching tools for the visually impaired.

--

Response #3: The downside of this is that if Chris decides to step away
there needs to be one or two who are willing to step up with the same
energy and availability, as well as leadership qualities. We’re doing a
good job of engaging the community, but we can always find ways of
improving.

--

Response #4 Education. I would love to see an emphasis on education from
within the chapter. Members sharing best practices, small wins, and how
they succeed in doing everyday things.

Question 3: Why are you a member of the NFB and what would you like to
see in the future? (Example: are you seeking specific resources, is there
more outreach we should be doing?)

Response #1: I’m a member because of the people. This is a great outfit
and I’m proud to be everyone’s friend. Moving forward – I would like to
hear more information from our members. Maybe have them sharing knowledge
at monthly meets (advice from current members). For example, ins and outs
of using a cane or guide dog.

--

Response # 2:

I am a member of the NFB to assist with bringing the message of the NFB to
the visually impaired population in the local community.

Continued advocacy for the visually impaired in the Winchester, Frederick,
and Clarke regions.

--

Response #3 I joined the chapter mostly for support in my low vision
journey. I am getting that from the group.

Suggestion for next survey: Ps rather than have the survey be open-ended,
except for the last question, it would be easier to quantify if the first 2
questions. Maybe have populated questions to select from multiple choice.

--

Response #4: Continue to grow the Chapter through more membership.

Sincerely,

James Shobert
