Hello NFB Family,
Response needed. Please read entire emailL
I wanted to send a quick message to wish everyone a happy labor day weekend
and two share two pieces of information:
1) I am forwarding an email from the Alexandria chapter wherein there is an
event fast approaching to go for a drive in a classical car. Its an event
for the blind and low vision in Fairfax, on September 23. Blind riders are
tasked with giving the driver direction with (audio, braille, or large
print text). If you are interested in participating, please contact the
host: Tom Renda, email: thomasdrenda at gmail.com.
2) We talked about doing a chapter picnic this month. I apologize for
letting this fall through the cracks. I would still like to do this picnic
if the chapter is interested. We discussed doing it at the sensory trail in
Jim Barnett park. Maybe on a saturday or sunday. Bring your own food (i
would be happy to supply water) or maybe we could take orders and pick up
JImmy Johns or something. Please respond if you're interested.

Hi Frank,
This year's version (our 58th!) of our Club's Braille Rallye will take
place on Saturday, September 23, at the same location. We hope you can
attend again this year. As always, there is no cost to participate, and we
can provide transportation to and from the park. If you wish to bring a
friend, family member or companion, you are welcome to do so..
For this year, we are adding a few new experiences at the Braille Rallye.
(weather permitting).
First, there will be a tandem bicycle (mine!) on hand in case anyone wants
to give it a try. (It will be a short ride around the park, where traffic
is safe). We'll have bicycle helmets on hand for anyone who needs one.
One of last year's navigators, Dena Lambert, actually rode a tandem in the
500 mile plus "RAGBRAI" ride (Register's Annual Bike Ride Across Iowa) in
2017 and survived it!
Second, there will be one or more motorcycles on hand (and possibly one
equipped with a sidecar) for navigators to try if they wish. Again,
helmets will be provided for anyone who needs one. And like the tandem
rides, trips will be in the park, only at slow speeds.
Our Braille Rallye was one of the mainstays of our club's annual
activities, and we are looking to grow participation for 2023. Everyone
who attends loves the event. If you have any visually impaired friends who
might like to attend, I hope you will pass the word along and ask them to
contact me if they have any questions.
Regards,
Tom Renda
