Hello colleagues,

Today I received a note from state Representative Eileen Cody saying that our bill is indeed dead in this legislative session. I thought it might’ve fallen under one of the exceptions to the cut off date but apparently it does not. Our fight for accessible prescription label law is not over. We will come back with another bill next year and the legislative supporters in the state House and Senate are committed to getting something passed. We will be also monitoring the state Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission closely since they do have a request from a blind person to issue rules on accessible prescription labels.

I want to thank each and everyone of you who called or emailed your representatives over the last few weeks. You did great work! We gained a lot more support for this issue. Like many of our legislative efforts, this one will take more than one year. We in the National Federation of the Blind know that we will keep working until we are successful.

Thanks for all the work you have done… And now let’s work on getting more cosponsors for our national legislation.

Marci Carpenter, President
National Federation of the Blind of Washington
