Subject: simple basic cell phone
Hi all, I am just thrilled about a cell phone I just bought over ebay. Before bidding on it, I did a lot of research over the internet into different basic, simple cell phones - phones that are just for basic phone functions - not all the bells and whistles of camera, gps, wifi, speech etc etc. This phone got very good reviews.
The Nokia 1600 is this basic simple candy stick style phone originally sold by 7-11 stores. It has quick start up, excellent battery life, a good-sized tactile backlit number keypad with simple send, end keys. Calls sound strong and clear. It comes with a charger and manual. The phone feels solid.
Sounds like the 7-11 stores are now starting to discontinue them (some 7-11 stores still have some) and replacing them with the Nokia 1208 which has a slightly different keypad, but sounds like should still be a good simple phone. Make sure the phone you buy is unlocked so you can use with any phone plan.
The Nokia 1600 can easily be found on ebay etc as used, or hardly used as mine is.
Many of us visually impaired/blind folk probably only want/need a dependable, easy to use phone. Period. This phone does not have speech, although it has a speaking clock. I disliked my last phone as it was complicated and hard to use. So far, I love this one. Doris
