Dear Jacob,

I hear it more everyday - Washington's families want to live and work in
affordable, walkable communities connected by transit.

Our state legislature is considering the Transit Oriented Communities bill,
which has strong support from both the environmental community and the
Washington Low Income Housing Alliance.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of misinformation out there about Transit
Oriented Communities and it's threatening the bill's progress.

Specifically, Transit-Oriented Communities (HB 1490 / SB 5687) would:

*	Create communities that are walkable, affordable and well connected
by transit.

*	Provide incentives and create requirements for more affordable
housing near rail stations.

*	Keep it local - There is no cookie cutter approach. From zoning and
height, to the look and character of neighborhoods, our communities and
cities decide at the local level how to grow and meet their goals.

*	Protect the environment - It asks local governments to consider the
impacts of their land-use decisions on climate change. It gives people
better transportation choices so that they are not stuck in their car
keeping harmful pollution out of our air and water.

Transit Oriented Communities gives us the opportunity to plan for a better
Washington. Contact your legislators today and encourage them to support
Transit Oriented Communities.
