[nfbwatlk] Convention Impressions

Hi Listers,

I'd do convention impressions, but don't know whether a wave file would
fit on the list. (grin.)

Actually, this year's convention was full of memorable activities. From
playing a role in the mock trial for the National Association of Blind
Lawyers, to participating on the scholarship committee, to listening to
Congressmen John Conyers, and John Dingel from Michigan, (even though
they were heckled a bit from some discontented conventioneers), to
spending time with friends from all over the country, to seeing Dan and
Renee, meeting Elizabeth and Jeff at the banquet table, to sitting with
Kay Kipp when she "broke herself" while yelling the Washington cheer,
etc, etc, the convention was great. Of course, I spent a considerable
amount of time walking between the main hotel and the Courtyard, and
most of that time confused, but all in all, the accommodations were
excellent, and I really wouldn't mind going back there again.

Following up on Beth's comments about the announcement, I missed that
altogether. I know a number of folks who fall into the category as gay,
etc, and who are not disappointed that we don't have a specialized group
dealing only with those specific issues. I for one don't see the need
for such groups, as I don't think the issues faced are necessarily
blindness related. But people will get together when they have things
in common, and there is no prohibition against folks gathering and
talking about anything they desire.

In any event, I had an excellent time, sorry I didn't get to meet
everyone from Washington, (Beth included) but we'll get together in
Washington at the state convention, if not before.
