Oxy Gene, Swift buses will help agency celebrate in the sun

Snohomish County, Wash. - Community Transit will help Snohomish County celebrate summer while spreading the word about the value of public transportation, including introducing people to the newest bus in the Community Transit fleet.

National Night Out, Aug. 4

The first stop will be the National Night Out Against Crime, from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 4 at McCollum Park in Mill Creek. Now in its 25th year, National Night Out is a partnership between police departments and local communities to increase awareness of anti-crime programs. While learning how you can protect yourself and family, stop by the Community Transit booth to visit with Oxy Gene - defender of truth, justice and really clean air, check out the Double Tall bus, and learn about the Curb the Congestion program and how you can earn $54 toward your commute.

Community Transit staff will also be on hand to talk transit and answer questions at the Snohomish and Lake Stevens National Night Out events. Both the Snohomish event (Averill Park/Snohomish Boys and Girls Club) and the Lake Stevens event (1803 123rd Drive NE) will take place from about 4-8 p.m.

Community Transit Routes 105, 106, 412, 414, 810, 812 and 860 serve the McCollum Park Park & Ride. To get to the Snohomish event, take Routes 270, 271, 275, 277 or 424. For the Lake Stevens events, take Routes 221 or 280.

Taste of Edmonds, Aug. 14-16

Community Transit will be at the Taste of Edmonds, from Aug. 14-16 at 6th Street and Bell Street including the Civic Center Playfield. Oxy Gene will be making the rounds as a taste test judge and this event will mark the first official appearance of a Swift bus rapid transit bus. The colorful hybrid bus is the newest member of the agency's fleet and will debut in operation this fall when Swift bus rapid transit service starts along the Highway 99 corridor. Community Transit Routes 114, 115, 116, 131, 404, 405, 416, 870 and 871 all serve the area where the event will be held.

Evergreen State Fair, Aug. 29-30

Those who stop by the Evergreen State Fair on Aug. 29-30 can board a Swift bus inside the fairgrounds. The agency will have a booth and the bus on site that weekend and will help answer questions about bus service. Community Transit is a major transportation provider to the fair, with Routes 270, 271 and 275 from Everett Station, Snohomish, Sultan and Gold Bar serving the fairgrounds.

Other events

If you just can't get enough Oxy Gene, the clean air super-hero will also be appearing on Aug. 1 in the Stanwood-Camano Fair Parade (accessible by Community Transit Routes 240, 247 and 422), on Aug. 29 at the Monroe Fair Days Parade (Routes 271, 275, 277 and 424) and Aug. 30 at Bothell Riverfest (Routes 105, 106, 120, 121 and Sound Transit Route 522).

Also, Community Transit will provide information about the Curb the Congestion Club at Sept. 13's Board Bash II at the Mill Creek Skatepark (Routes 105 and 106). Find out how taking public transportation can pay off for you.
