Being part of the inter grated system in GA, CA, & WA I can tell you that
schools for the blind do work if they can work well. far too often
integrated students are left out in the cold by school districts that are under
funded or just don't care about the needs of the blind. I had to struggle all
through school but I did graduate. No thanks to the public school system.

Right on.
"Full inclusion" works well when school districts devote sufficient
resources to hire qualified personnel and provide textbooks, technology
and the like for blind students in their districts. Unfortunately, this
is all-too-often not the case.

It seems that there is more to the equation here than money concernes,
although certainly money shapes the debate. There are some who actually
believe that places like schools for the blind are somehow regressive.
I've
seen the term "segregation" used, even by some blind people. Full
inclusion
is a great ideal, and it works well in a vast majority of cases, but not
all. The bottom line is, schools for the blind are still very much
needed,
and closing them will cause untold harm to the individuals these
legislators
are professing to help.
