Reardon works to land direct Etihad flight at Sea-Tac Work with fastest
growing commercial airline
builds on Boeing relationship

Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon, while traveling through the United
Arab Emirates on a trade mission, has met with Etihad Airways officials to
discuss establishing a direct flight between Abu Dhabi and Seattle-Tacoma
International Airport (Sea-Tac).

The company, one of the fastest growing airlines in commercial aviation
history, has plans to expand to 70 locations by 2010. Reardon wants Sea-Tac
to be a destination under consideration.
Etihad, set up as the national airline of the United Arab Emirates in July
2003, already flies to 37 worldwide destinations. The airline currently
flies to the North American cities of Chicago, New York and Toronto.

"Etihad is a solid Boeing customer with a great future in the commercial
aviation industry," Reardon said. "A direct flight to Seattle enhances the
incredible service it already offers and further promotes its relationship
to Boeing and planes such as the 777 and 787."

The airline spent about $8 billion in 2004 ordering new aircraft, which
included five Boeing 777-300ERs.

Last year, it agreed to purchase 35 Boeing 787s and 10 more 777-300ERs with
options for 25 additional 787s and 10 more 777-300ERs in addition to
purchase rights for another 10 Boeing787s and five 777s. The new aircraft
are scheduled for delivery through 2020.

"We want to promote Sea-Tac as a viable option for Etihad Airways," Reardon
said. "Increasing our region's exposure as an international destination and
gateway underscores our ability to compete for business worldwide."

Reardon currently is co-leading a trade mission sponsored by the Trade
Development Alliance of Greater Seattle and the Greater Seattle Chamber of
Commerce to the United Arab Emirates. His costs have been paid in full by
the sponsor organizations.

arrowwithyellowReardon endorses rainy day fund ordinance

Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon has approved an ordinance creating
a General Fund Revenue Stabilization Fund, commonly referred to as a Rainy
Day Reserve Fund.

The ordinance will allow the county to reserve funds to mitigate the impact
of economic swings such as has recently occurred nationwide. A previous fund
created in 1993 has been inactive since 2003 and was repealed by the County
Council in 2006.

The ordinance, introduced by Councilman Brian Sullivan, follows the path of
a similar ordinance that Reardon introduced in 2004.

"I'm pleased to see the steps that will allow us a better strategy and a
more prudent approach to saving funds for a rainy day," Reardon said. "We
must continue to show fiscal discipline, and previous Councils have not
allowed for that."

Specifically, the ordinance requires that the county deposit any available
General Fund reserves that exceed liquidity needs into the new Stabilization
Fund. Each annual budget also shall identify any additional funds that can
be contributed to the Stabilization Fund.

"A stricter General Fund reserve policy is an essential part of preparing
for future downswings while limiting their impact on our budget," Reardon
said.

arrowwithyellowExtra patrols put focus on traffic safety

During the week of March 15-21, Snohomish County will join its counterparts
in King, Skagit, Island and Whatcom Counties for another of the Washington
Traffic Safety Commission's "X-52 Sustained Enforcement" traffic safety
emphasis patrols.

The focus of the weeklong event is to educate drivers about unsafe driving
behaviors -- especially when related to driving under the influence -- safe
speeds and occupant protection.

"Sadly, we had one traffic death and several pedestrian injuries in
February," said Tracy McMillan, Snohomish County DUI and Traffic Safety Task
Force Coordinator. "With the change in daylight-savings time, St. Patrick's
Day activities and the coming of spring, it's time to remind drivers to pay
attention to their speed, arrange rides if they plan to celebrate, watch for
pedestrians and to always buckle up."

Snohomish County law enforcement agencies will be working together in a
multi-jurisdictional, highly visible patrol the week of March 15-21. Patrols
will focus on roadways known to have a higher average of traffic crashes.
