I've signed the petition, even though I tend to agree with Mike that
petitions are the poorest way to influence government. I don't know how well
they work on corporations. I guess we'll see.
How about writing a personal letter to Freedom Scientific expressing your
outrage at their behavior? I haven't done that -- at least not yet. If they
begin to understand that consumers will start voting with their feet, or
should I say their wallets, that might make a difference. If the state
agencies for the blind expressed a similar point of view, I expect Freedom
would listen even more quickly, since state VR agencies have opened their
collective wallets to pay for more FS products than any other group of
customers.

Mike,

That may be true to some extent, but it's a great way just to see how
many people oppose/support some item. I think we need a resolution at
National Convention stating our opposition not to Freedom Scientific
directly, but to any company that would impose restrictions such that
access technology becomes more inaccessible than it already is. I see
this petition as a starting point for further development of concerted
action, and I encourage you to take part regardless of its seeming
futility and apparent waste of space.

Respectfully,
Jedi
